We are a community guitar orchestra open to people of all ages and experience levels, united by a shared passion for music. Our mission is to provide through the guitar an inspiring environment where individuals can learn, collaborate, and perform, fostering both musical growth and meaningful human connection. We aspire to become a vibrant voice within the Salt Lake City guitar community, representing its spirit through dedication, inclusivity, and artistic excellence.

Sergio Frias Corona
Music Director Sergio Frias works closely with each member of the orchestra, guiding them not only in technique, but in the deeper understanding of music as a shared language. Through discipline, attention to detail, and a strong sense of artistic direction, he helps each guitarist develop their individual voice while contributing to something greater than themselves.
Under his leadership, the orchestra becomes a space where collaboration is essential and unity is the goal. What begins as many independent musicians gradually transforms into a cohesive ensemble—where multiple guitars blend into a single, rich, and expressive sound.
His vision goes beyond performance; it is about building connection, fostering growth, and shaping a collective musical identity grounded in excellence and purpose.
Orchestra Chair Members
Josh Giolas
I have been playing guitar since I was 13. I played in rock and punk bands when I was in high school and later played solo gigs as a folk singer/songwriter. As a songwriter I started studying classical music theory and my love for the classical guitar grew from there. I have been studying guitar with Sergio Frias, the greatest teacher I’ve ever had and one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. My favorite composer for the guitar is Augustín Barrios Mangoré.
Jay Hansen
My roots are in Chicago blues and rock. In high school I played string bass in the band and came to love the classics. I still do. In the same vintage I played electric bass in a garage band and for gigs all over Northern Illinois. I’ve been owning "the groove" for decades and loving it. Twelve-bar blues are in my core.
R. Brent Bloomdale
The sounds of the classical guitar’s nylon strings have always been appealing to me. Through my school years and beyond, I’ve enjoyed playing in different genres of music from classical, Spanish, Celtic to folk. I enjoy observing the different moods or ambiences that occur with key changes and various melody, harmony and rhythm patterns. I hope to compose songs and music for the guitar in the future.
